On 06/08/2023 at approximately 4:54 pm, Joshua Landers, 42, who was going door to door selling meat from his refrigerated work vehicle, knocked on the door of Richard Wright’s, 63, home located on Douglas Avenue. After knocking, Wright answered the door and immediately kicked Landers in his upper thigh and yelled at him to get off his property.
Landers began running away from the property and Wright chased him back to his vehicle attempting to grab Landers and while doing so ripped Landers’ shirt. Landers then attempted to get back into his vehicle. As Landers was attempting to get into the vehicle, Wright was pulling him back out of the vehicle.
At this time Landers grabbed his pistol from inside his vehicle and told Wright that “He had a gun.” Wright said he “didn’t care” and continued his assault. Landers, who was in fear at this time, struck Wright with the pistol three times in the head.
Landers was able to get away from Wright, drove a block away, called 911 and waited for the police to arrive. Detectives responded to the scene and investigated. Wright was flown to Phoenix due to a high loss of blood from the laceration to his head. Charges are being reviewed for both subjects.
