Recently, the Prescott Valley Police Department have received multiple reports of citizens being given fake jewelry in exchange for gas money at local gas stations.
At least eight victims have come forward in the past two weeks and have reported:
• They had given gas money to people hanging out at local gas stations with their children, who have asked for gas money.
• In exchange these givers/victims were given jewelry stamped 14kt and 18kt.
It was later discovered that the jewelry is fake and only brass with gold plating. These incidents have been reported in Prescott Valley and in Dewey.
The Prescott Valley Police Department would like to remind everyone that as kind and giving it may be, please be cautious when giving money under these and similar circumstances, as it may be a scam.
