White Spar Prescribed Burn Planned on the Bradshaw RD

Fire Managers on the Bradshaw Ranger District will begin implementing the White Spar RX starting as early as Monday, November 8 continuing through Friday, November 12, 2021.  Firefighters plan to treat 415 acres near White Spar Campground and the community of Haisley Homestead; north of Schoolhouse Gulch Road (T13N, R2W, SEC 16) if conditions are favorable; including air quality, wind direction and weather forecasts.

Smoke impacts can be expected on portions of Highway 89 in the early morning and late evening; in the communities surrounding the burn and into Prescott.  Recreational users are asked to please avoid the use of trails from White Spar and Senator Hwy; including the following trails:  Whitespar Loop Trail #371, Twist and Shout Trail #372, Apple Blossom Trail 373, Hidden Valley Trail #374, Goldwater Lake Trail #396, Banning Creek Trail 81, Feldmeier Trail 330, and Schoolhouse Gulch Trail #67 during this time.  For information on alternate trails, please call the Bradshaw Ranger District at 928-443-8000.

The White Spar RX will reduce fuels, restore wildlife habitat and improve forest health. Prescribed fire is an effective tool to restore fire-adapted ecosystems by applying low- to moderate-intensity fire to the landscape under specific conditions within predetermined boundaries. Areas treated with prescribed fire can positively impact future wildfires by reducing fire intensity and adverse smoke effects and increasing the safety margin for firefighters.

In the interest of safety, forest visitors are reminded to obey all traffic signs and use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the prescribed burn units as firefighters and fire-related traffic will be in the area.

All prescribed fires activity is dependent on the availability of personnel and equipment, weather, fuels and conditions that minimize smoke impacts as best as possible and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).
