UPDATE: As of Friday morning (5/28) the Spur Fire is 25% contained. Containment lines held overnight, but the residents remain evacuated. 25 buildings have burned, 20 of these were homes.

The town of Bagdad, Arizona, was evacuated Thursday afternoon as the Spur Fire started burning on the north side of town. Over 150 acres have burned, including 25-30 structures and houses.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office reports: ” …As of right now, the fire is at 150 aces and crews are still actively working to contain the fire. State Routes 96 and 97 are both closed coming into Bagdad. We are asking everyone to avoid the area. YCSO is investigating the cause of the fire. The initial investigation shows that it may be been started by a road construction crew. We are still investigating and will keep the community update. Until then, please keep the families who have been displaced in your thoughts. We appreciate all the first responders on the scene that are working the fire..”
Airtankers and fire department units on the ground are fighting the fire. A shelter has been set up at Hassayampa Elementary School in Wickenburg.
Bagdad has a population of 2,000 people.
