Prescott Takes Care Of Business In A Pair Of Wins Over Mingus

Dalton Leads Lady Badgers in 39-33 Win, Parent leads Boys on the road

Hollie Dalton led all scorers with 22, to lead the Prescott Lady Badgers to a 39-33 win over the Mingus Lady Marauders, in the Badger Dome last night.

Prescott coach Bobbi Yoder said, “This was a very scrappy game tonight. We started a little bit slow but were able to pick up the intensity and pressure with our press. That got us some turnovers and forced Mingus into some quick shots. We were able to build a 12 point lead going into the fourth. The turnovers we committed in the fourth allowed Mingus to get back in the game, but ultimately we were able to hang on to the lead for the win. It definitely wasn’t pretty but we will take the win.”

It was a tight game after one quarter with the teams tied at 8. Prescott managed to take a slim 18-16 lead to the locker room at the half.

The third quarter was nearly all Lady Badgers, as Prescott increased their lead to 33-21, thanks to 14 of the 15 quarter points by Hollie Dalton.

Things slowly became a little interesting as Mingus crept back into the game, and when Dalton fouled out with 1:36 left, the Marauders trailed by just four, 37-33. Prescott would be able to keep Mingus scoreless in the final 96 seconds to pick up the win.

Dalton finished with a double double. Besides scoring 22 points, Hollie had 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

Marauders senior Chase Doerksen was held to just 6 points, while sophomore Taylor Brock led Mingus with 7.

Janie Rudy, who had 4 points, but was big on the boards with 10 rebounds said, “We are playing more as a team, and up to our potential in each of our last three games after the opening lost to Bradshaw.”

Prescott (2-1) in the Grand Canyon Region, (3-1) overall, will pay a visit to Flagstaff on Friday. Tip time is 7:00 pm. Mingus drops to (0-3) and (0-4), and will play at Bradshaw Mountain on Thursday and host Coconino on Friday.
