YC SBDC honored for helping PV Chamber, business community access COVID-19 resources

Calling them her “A-team,” Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce President Marnie Uhl on Friday presented the “Chamber Partner Award” to the staff of the Yavapai College Small Business Development Center.

The award recognizes the SBDC team’s efforts to help the chamber and its members access critical COVID-19 information and resources.

“Thank you for the support and leadership you showed as we navigated the crazy world of COVID-19. The information and resources you shared, the communication you engaged in and the virtual meetings you hosted were invaluable to us as we dedicated our time and energies to help our business community,” Uhl said during a surprise award presentation at the chamber offices. “You were and still are our go-to partner for information as we continue through this unprecedented time.”

Hosting dozens of webinars, virtual meetings and trainings since March, the SBDC has provided free COVID-19 consulting to businesses during and after government-imposed closures and restrictions. The organization has helped countless businesses obtain emergency government grants and loans and helped many shore up their workforces by publicizing job openings.

Joining Uhl for the award presentation were YC Vice President of Community Relations and Student Development Rodney Jenkins; Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Chairman Chris Graff; SBDC Director Jeri Denniston; and YC Regional Economic Development Center officials Richard Hernandez, Karen Jones and Katherine Anderson.

Denniston attributed the SBDC’s ability to provide critical assistance to the chamber and the business community to every staff member pitching in and caring. “It has just been a great team and I’m delighted,” she said.
