Drivers with plans to travel northbound on Interstate 17 at the State Route 74/Carefree Highway interchange in north Phoenix on Friday, Aug. 7, should allow extra travel time and be prepared for slow traffic while pavement maintenance is underway in the area.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is resurfacing the northbound I-17 right lanes near the Carefree Highway overpass. Motorists also should stay alert for highway crews and equipment when approaching and traveling through the following restriction:
Northbound I-17 narrowed to one lane (left lane open) at SR 74/Carefree Highway from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. The northbound I-17 on-ramp at Dove Valley Road will be closed.
Drivers on SR 74 or Carefree Highway can consider using northbound North Valley Parkway to Pioneer Road to enter I-17 beyond the work zone on Friday.
Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, by calling 511 and through ADOT’s Twitter feed, @ArizonaDOT. When a freeway closure or other major traffic event occurs, our free app available at ADOTAlerts.com will send critical information directly to app users in affected areas – where possible, in advance of alternate routes.
