On Monday July 20th, 2020 at approximately 10:25 PM Prescott Police Officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the area of Iron Springs Rd. and Miller Valley Rd. (commonly referred to as “four points”) for a report of a collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian riding a kick scooter.
Through investigation, officers determined that a 2008 Nissan pickup, driven by 22 year old Nicholas Tews of Prescott, was attempting to make a left turn from Miller Valley Rd. onto Iron Springs Rd. when he collided with a scooter propelled by 19 year old Logan Springs of Prescott who was traveling NB across Iron Springs Rd.
Unfortunately, Springs sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Honor Health Deer Valley Medical Center by helicopter.
Tews performed standardized field sobriety tests at the scene and exhibited signs and symptoms consistent with recent drug use. He was subsequently placed under arrest for driving under the influence. During a vehicle inventory pursuant to an impound, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a handgun were located. Tews was booked into the Yavapai County Jail for charges of felony Misconduct Involving a Weapon during the commission of a drug offense, Driving Under the Influence, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The Yavapai County Attorney’s Office will be reviewing the case for the charge of Aggravated Assault related to the collision.
