Last week, the Northern Arizona University (NAU) Lumberjacks kept their goalie from seeing much action, as they sent the puck into the Cal Lutheran Knight’s net for a two-game total of 33 goals. Yikes! The Knights responded with only two goals in the first game, and none the second. Certainly both games were blowouts by any standard.
This week, NAU faces the Grand Canyon University (GCU) Antelopes for a 2-game match on Friday and Saturday, starting at 7 PM.
The ‘Lopes have had a challenging season thus far with a record of 2-8. The Jacks enter the match with a 5-3 record on the season and are coming off the strong victory against the Knights. (The only team that has consistently beaten the Jacks this season is the University of Arizona.)
NAU has some great scorers on their side, Max Mahood has 11 goals and contributed to a total of 19 points this season, and Lucas Lomax is right behind him with 7 goals and 18 total points. On GCU's side, Tate Erickson is their highest scorer, with 5 goals and 12 total points.
In 8 games, the Jacks have scored 52 goals, and only allowed 20 goals from their foes. The 'Lopes have scored 31 goals this season, and allowed 68 against them. It will be interesting to see if this will be another high scoring event this weekend.
You won't see these teams playing against one another until next January at the Prescott Valley Events Center. Ticket prices range from $11-$17.
Saturday’s game will honor Cancer Awareness. The arena will be open in the morning from 8 AM - 2 PM on the 28th to allow fans to ice-paint the name of a loved one who has been affected by cancer in the arena. There is no cost for this activity. The event is sponsored by Creekside Painting and Simon Med.
The last time the ice was painted for Cancer Awareness was when the Sundogs were playing in town.
