Phoenix Suns Call Up NAZ Suns’ Guard Elijah Millsap

This marks the third GATORADE Call-Up for a NAZ Suns’ player this season

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. – The Phoenix Suns announced today that they have signed Northern Arizona Suns guard Elijah Millsap to a multi-year contract.

This marks the third GATORADE Call-Up of the season for a NAZ Suns player, as Johnny O’Bryant was called up by the Denver Nuggets and Charlotte Hornets earlier in the year.

The 6-foot 6-inch, 215-pound guard is the 35th player in the NBA Development League to earn a GATORADE Call-Up this season, and he is the 49th GATORADE Call-Up from the D-League this year.

Millsap will wear No. 22 for his new team and will be available for the Suns’ game today against the Dallas Mavericks at 3 p.m. PT. He is one of three former NAZ players currently on an NBA roster, as Derrick Jones Jr. is also with the Phoenix Suns and O’Bryant remains with the Hornets on a multi-year deal.

The Alabama-Birmingham alum will look to log regular season minutes for his second NBA team. Millsap played two seasons for the Utah Jazz from 2014-16, appearing in 67 total games, including five starts. In 2014-15, he averaged 5.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 19.7 minutes per game.

In his NBA career, Millsap is averaging 4.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 steals in 16.4 minutes per game.

Millsap joins his eighth NBA franchise, as he spent time with the Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers.

This past season with Northern Arizona, Millsap led the team in scoring (19.7 points per game), steals (2.1 per game), minutes (37.0 per game) and double-doubles (13). He was second on the team behind current Hornets forward O’Bryant in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game, and third on the team with 4.0 assists per game. He was the only Suns player to start all 50 games this season, and was one of three players to play in all 50 Northern Arizona games on the year (Derek Cooke Jr., Josh Gray). He scored the most points in NAZ Suns history in their season finale on April 1 when he dropped a career-high 38 points on 12-of-24 shooting, including 7-of-12 from distance, against the Reno Bighorns. Millsap scored 30+ points four times and 20+ points 23 times this season.

Millsap was among the D-League leaders in numerous categories. He was 15th in the league with his scoring, fourth in minutes played per game and fifth in steals per game.

In his six D-League seasons, Millsap averaged 18.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals in 205 games. He was named an All-Star in 2012, and named to the All D-League 2nd Team that same season.
