Double Overtime Goal Gives Eagles Women's Soccer 1-0 Victory Against Mariners

PRESCOTT- The Embry Riddle Eagles women’s soccer team has three conference losses at home the past three years, all against the Marymount California University Mariners. On Sunday afternoon, October 1st, the Eagles got revenge on a goal by Eagles sophomore forward Jennifer Ruth in double overtime at home for the 1-0 win against the Mariners.

“They (the Mariners) always come out ready for us and they always put up a tremendous fight,” Eagles’ head coach Todd Poitras said. “We were really amped, ready to go, and knew it was going to be a tough game and that’s what it shaped up to be.”

The Eagles were on the attack throughout the game against Marymount California University, outshooting the Mariners 19-7 in regulation, but could not reach the back of the net.

“We pushed hard, it wasn’t our best game but that’s ok.” Eagles’ soccer midfielder Andie Dean said. “This team has shown this season that even though we are not playing our best, we can keep pushing through.”

After a scoreless first overtime, the Eagles only shot-on-goal of the second overtime netted the win with eight minutes remaining.

“We had so many chances but we just couldn’t get one in the back of the net,” Poitras said.
“A feeling of relief and accomplishment that’s for sure.”

Embry Riddle Eagles (8-3, 2-0 CALPAC) are back on the road Thursday, October 5th, at 1:00 pm for a matchup against the University of California-Merced.
