Basketball teams fall in Flagstaff

Varsity Girls Basketball

The Lady Badgers dropped a 52-36 decision at Coconino last night.

Prescott played a solid first quarter with the game tied after one. The Lady Basgers trailed by just three at the break 20-17. 

The third quarter proved disastrous as the Panthers built a 39-24 lead with one quarter to play.

Coach Bobbi Yoder said, “We just turned over the ball way to much in the third quarter and gave the game away. We played bette in the fourth but had to big of a hole to climb out of at that point.”

Hollie Dalton led Prescott with 17 points. Alisa LeBlanc adds 10 and Kira Reily with 9.

The Lady Badgers drop to (1-2) in the Grand Canyon Region and  (5-6) overall. Prescott will host Lee Williams on Thursday at 5:30pm.  Coconino  (4-0) and (13-5), will travel to Cottonwood to face Mingus on Friday.

Varsity Boys Basketball

The Badgers were in a hole early and was just unable to climb their way out of it in a 70-56 at Coconino last night.

Coach Travis Stedman said, “We had a really tough start. We were down 12-0 and got into foul trouble with both (Milap) Owens and (Jason) Parent picking up two fouls each with six minutes left in the first. We also just could not finish in the paint. Once the game settled down, we reset, got their lead cut to single digits, but just could not dig fully back.”

The Badgers trailed by eight after one quarter and the Panthers added to their lead, building a 36-22 lead at the half. The Prescott deficit grew to 55-37 after three quarters.

The Badgers made up a little ground in the final quarter, but never threatened the outcome of the game.

The Panthers took advantage of free throws, outscoring Prescott 25-7 from the charity stripe.

Jason Parent led the Badgers with 16 points. Sam Yeager added 11, with Milap Owens and Korey Schwartz with 10 each. William McMenamin led the Panthers with 19.

Coconino improves to (4-0) in Grand Canyon Region play and (14-4) overall. The Badgers (2-1) in the Grand Canyon Region and (3-7) overall, will host Lee Williams at 7pm, a Thursday.
