Makayla Reyes hit two home runs but it was not enough as the Prescott Badgers lost their final home game of the season to the Mohave Thunderbirds 12-8 on a cool and rainy afternoon. Despite the weather conditions, both teams battled it out.
Mohave took advantage of some hits, walsk and errors by the Badgers to build a five run lead to start the game. The Thunderbirds added another in the second to lead 6-0. The Badgers started a comeback in the bottom of the inning. Sophia Fanchin's two run single put the Badgers on the board. Then Makayla Reyes belted a two run shot over the centerfield fence in the third to get within 6-4. Reyes, who went the distance in the circle, held Mohave in check frokm the third through the fifth innings, giving the Badgers some opportunites to comeback.
Prescott took the led in the fifth when Tessa Eppele hit a two run double to the fence and the Badgers led 7-6. The lead was short lived as Mohave took advantage of a walk and an error to take the lead back at 8-7. Mohave put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh with four more runs. Makayla Reyes added her second home run of the game, but it was not enough.
Prescott (0-9) in Grand Canyon Region and (5-16) overall will get another shot at the Thunderbirds in their final game of the season at Mohave.
The Prescott Badgers remained tied at the top of the Grand Canyon Region with a 5-1 won at Mohave.
Ray Chairez was near perfect in picking up the win. Chairez went the distance allowing a run on just two hits, while striking out five and not allowing a walk. Korey Schwartz and Ray Chairez each had a triple, with Chairez picking up three RBIs.
The Badgers (10-1) in the Grand Canyon Region and (14-8) overall will host Mohave in their final regular season home game on Thursday at 3pm.
