The Mingus Marauders took advantage some of Prescott Badgers miscues, to beat the Badgers 9-4 in the home opener, at Prescott High School yesterday afternoon.

Things started off well for the home team, as Badger pitcher Makayla Reyes got the first two outs. Mingus earned a walk and picked up a pair of hits to jump on top 2-0. The Badgers went quietly in their half of the opening inning, but came back with three runs in the second, capped off by an RBI double by Alyssa Ragan to up 3-2.

The Marauders put to use a couple of Badger errors to regain the lead 4-3 in the top of the third. Mingus picked up three more in the top of the fifth, to take a 7-3 lead.

The Badgers got one back in the bottom of the fifth, but Mingus extended the lead to five runs going to the bottom of the sixth. The Badgers failed to get anything going to produce any runs in the final two frames.

Fran Larson and Tessa Eppele each picked up a pair of hits, with Eppele picking up an RBI as well. Bekah Norris also had an RBI single. Mikayla Reyes went the complete game in the circle, allowing five earned runs, with seven strikouts.

The Badgers (0-1) in Grand Canyon Region, and (4-4) overall, will host a non-region contest versus Seton Catholic, on Friday at 4pm. Mingus (1-0) and (5-0) will host Arcadia on Monday at 4pm.

Badger pitcher Ray Chairez gave up one run and one hit, while going the distance of a 10-run rule shortened contest, as the Badgers beat Mingus Marauders 11-1 in Cottonwood.

Prescott managed to score a run in each of the five innings, with seven Badgers picking up hits. Rhett Pearce's triple, and Korey Schwartz's double, were the only extra base hits, to go along with three RBIs each. Schwartz and Jacob Police each had two hits in the game.

Chairez threw 83 pitches, struggling at times with his control by walking five, but he struck out two and had some good defense when needed.

The Badgers (1-0) in Grand Canyon Region, and (2-4) overall will host Mingus (0-1) and (0-4) in a rematch tomorrow at Prescott High School. Game time is 3pm.
