Second half play good sign that team is ready for playoff run

The Prescott Badgers secured second place in the Grand Canyon Region on Thursday evening, with a 6-2 win over the Mohave Thunderbirds at Bullhead City. The teams were tied for second coming into the game, with the winner most likely getting a first round playoff home game. Sawyer Magnett led the Badgers with three goals, all three coming on penalty kicks.

The Badgers trailed 2-1 after the first half, but played a flawless second by scoring 5 goals, while shutting out Mohave. A pair of sophomores, Yadhira Robles and Julia Camacho each scored a goal in the first half for the Thunderbirds, after Sawyer Magnett scored the first goal of the game to put Prescott up 1-0.

Sawyer Magnett kicked in the equalizer, and it was 2-2. Ellie Magnett put the Badgers on top 3-2. Sawyer Magnett added her third, along with goals by Nicole Raiss and Lily Jenson.

Prescott (13-3), ranked #7 in Division 4A, will have to wait and see where they will play when the playoff schedule is out next week. Even if Flagstaff were to lose to Bradshaw Mountain on Monday, the Eagles hold the tie breaker when they beat the Badgers 2-1 in Prescott on January 17.
