Prescott gives Lee Williams a battle on Senior Night

The Prescott Badgers dropped their final regular season home game to the Lee Williams Volunteers 50-42 in the Badger Dome last night. Three seniors, Matt Lopez, Aydan McKenna, and Ryan Mickelson all played in their final home game, and were recognized with their families prior to the game.
Lee Williams led from the get go, till Korey Schwartz knocked down a shot to give Prescott their first lead of the night at 10-9. The lead was short lived, as in just 11 seconds, the Volunteers nailed a three to take the lead back. Lee Williams slowly built a larger lead, as the Badgers attempted to stay close. Shots by Jason Parent and Dellin Boyd did just that. The Volunteers took advantage of a seven poiint possession, as immediately after a Badger foul, a technical foul was assessed. When all was said and done it was a seven point gain for the Volunteers. Lee Williams headed to the locker room with a 27-19 halftime lead.

The Badgers came out in the third quarter with determination. Jason Parent scored eight points in the quarter, started things off with a three just 15 seconds in, cutting the deficit to 27-22. Parent again for three midway through the quarter making it 29-25. Once again, Parent went high to pull down a rebound, then put the ball back into basket, and it was 29-27 3:36 left. Sam Yeager's acrobatic reverse layup trimmed the Volunteers lead to 32-31 with under two minutes in the third quarter. Korey Schwartz knocked down a pair at the line to keep the Badgers knocking on the door at 35-33. Prescott had a chance to tie the game but shot missed, leaving the Badgers trailing 35-33 to start the fourth quarter.

The Badgers finally caught Lee Williams when Milap Owens fed Korey Schwartz on an inbounds play, for an easy layup, to tie the game at 35 with 7:05 remaining. Korey Schwartz rebound and put back gave Prescott their first lead since the opening quarter at 38-37 with just under five minutes remaining.

The Volunteers took notice and turned up the heat. Aggressive play by Lee Williams over the next minute provided a 6-0 run to put the Badgers back in the hole at 43-38.
Parent's layup cut it to 45-40 with 1:51 to play, but Lee Williams would hold off the Badgers to pick up their 18th win of the season.

Prescott coach Travis Stedman said, "I thought we got after it tonight. We played really good defense against a team that could have scored a lot more." In regards to the second quarter personal foul, followed by the technical foul, and ball awarded to Lee Williams, Stedman said, "We hurt ourselves by giving up a seven point possession at the end of the first half that really hurt us."

When asked about the Badgers low scoring total, Stedman said, "I thought we were pressing offensively, especially in the final minutes. We could never find any kind of rhythm."

Prescott (2-8) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (5-15) overall, will face the Bears of Bradshaw Mountain on Saturday at 2pm at the Prescott Valley Events Center.
