The Mingus Marauders returned the favor by coming to Prescott and beating the Badgers 65-61 in the Badger Dome last night. Prescott took care of the Marauders back on December 11 in Cottonwood 65-48.

Jason Parent and Korey Schwartz each played strong games for the Badgers, but give credit to Mingus, who made key shots and their free throws to withstand any Badger comeback.

Prescott coach Travis Stedman said, “I thought we played very hard. We just had somethings happen that we could not control, but we were there, just couldn’t get the win.”

Things started off promising for the Badgers, who led 10-5 midway threough the opening quarter. Mingus put a run off 7-2 together to tie the game at 12. Aydan McKenna drilled a three to give the Badgers the lead back at 15-12, with just under a minute to play in the first.

The Marauders went on another run, this time 10-0 to go up 29-22. The teams exchanged a pair baskets sending the Badgers to the locker room trailng 29-24 at the break.

Schwartz, who was held to one bucket in the first half, picked up a quick hoop to start the third, with a nice feed by McKenna to cut the deficit to 29-26.

Parent's three pulled the Badgers to within 35-33. Parents tip in made it 38-37. Following that Mingus started to increase their lead. The Marauders led 48-39 after four free throws, resulting from a Badger personal foul and a technical. Another hoop made it 50-39 with 1:55 remaining in the third.

A Collin Hicks tip in, cut the deficit to 50-43. Jason Parent long range jumper from the corner, trimmed the Mingus lead to 50-46. The Badgers had a chance to score at the end of third, but failed to get a shot off.

Despite the the turnovers to start the fourth quarter, the Badgers pulled within two again, 52-50 with 5:22 remaining. Milap Owens pull up jumper got Prescott back to within two. Mingus continued to answer as the Marauder lead varied between two and four.

Down by four, Schwartz hit a top of key three, and it was 57-56 with 3:42 left. Mingus responded nailing a three of their own and followed that up with a free throw to lead 61-56 at 2:40. Sam Yeager's drive to the basket for a layup trimmed the Marauder lead back to three at 61-58 with just over two minutes to play.

The Badgers failed on a couple of game tying three pointer attempts. The Marauders attempted to run off clock, forcing the Badgers to foul with :43 remaining. Trailing by six, 64-58, Parent went to the basket, scored and was fouled, making the free throw, but the Badgers trailed 64-61. Mingus added an insurance point, making one of two free throws with :09 left to secure the win.

The Badgers were led by Korey Schwartz 20 points, 15 rebounds, and Jason Parent with 20 points, 5 rebounds. Chaz Taylor led Mingus with 24 points and 4 rebounds.
