Two second half goals by the Magnett sisters is the difference

Sawyer Magnett and Ellie Magnett each scored a second half goal to lead the Badgers over Estrella Foothills 2-0, at Prescott High School last night. It was a rematch of last years quarterfinal game in Phoenix, where the Badgers won an intense contest 1-0.

Both teams had limited chances with the Badgers leading 5-3 in the shots on goal department, in the first half as neither team had anything to show for it.

The Badgers were finally able to break the ice when Sawyer Magnett put a penalty kick into the net with 39:21 remaining. Younger sister Ellie Magnett slipped one past the Wolves goalie with 26:44 to play, giving the Badgers some added cushion.

Goalkeeper Becca Norris kept the shutout intact as Prescott improved to (9-2) on the season.

Prescott coach Paul Campuzano said, "We played really good tonight. We beat them in the quarterfinals last year so we knew they would be tough. Our midfield play with Sawyer Magnett and Sydney Seeley controlled long portions of the game and field our attack. We really wore them down in the seocnd half with numerous opportunites and 12 shots on goal. I am really proud how we played tonight after coming off the holiday break."

In regards to having to deal with juggling a lineup with so many injury issues, Campuzano added, "It is so important to have their leadership when you have to start five freshmen due to injuries. They control the flow of the game and allow the young players to settle in and play with confidence."

The Badgers will visit Mingus on Tuesday at 5pm.
