Summit leads Bears with 23, while Schwartz scores 18 for Prescott

The Bradshaw Mountain Bears used a 23 point performance by 6'7" Nathan Summit to beat the Prescott Badgers 65-52 in the Badger Dome.  The Bears win snapped the Badgers three game winning streak over Bradshaw Mountain.

The Bears took an early lead, and built it into a nine point lead tin the first few minutes of the contest. Trailing 14-5 to start the second, the Badgers put a 10-4 run together. Korey Schwartz dropped in a pair of free throws to pull Prescott within 18-15 with 3:49 left in the second quarter. That turned out to be the closest the Badgers would get the rest of the night.

Jason Parent snapped the Bears run with a basket with :17 left, but after the Badgers secured a rebound, they threw the ball away, which resulted in a basket that bounced around the rim before going in. The gift gave Bradshaw Mountain a 31-17 lead at the half.

Prescott actaully outscored the Bears 35-34 in the second half, but the twelve point deficit proved to be to much to overcome. Milap Owens knocked down a three to pull Prescott within 33-22 with 6:27 left in the third.

Davis Massis, who scored 15 for Bradshaw Mountain changed the momentum back to the Bears. Massis scored a bucket after three in the paint attempts. His determination paid off with the basket to increase the Bears lead to 35-22 with 5:24 remaining in the third. The second chance points began to mount for Bradshaw Mountain, as they increased their lead over Prescott to 41-24.

Once again, it was a three pointer, this time by Jacob Carter, to give the Badgers back some momentum, but still trailing 41-27.

The fourth quarter began with Prescott trailing 43-28. The Badger deficit would remain between 15 and 18 till the final two minutes. Bradshaw Mountain made the Badgers pay in the final six plus minutes, by being in the bonus and converting most of their free throws. The Bears 14 of their 22 points in the final quarter from the charity stripe.

The Badgers down 52-37 with 4:55 left, had many opportunities to get some points, but missed much needed shots. Meanwhile the Bears kept on making free throws, 85% for the game. One interesting fact was that Bradshaw Mountain did not score one three point basket, while Prescott was able to knock down four.

Sam Yeager came off the bench to enegize the home team while scoring seven points in the final five minutes. The Badgers trailed 62-44 with 2:20 left, but put a late run together, but it was too little too late.

Prescott (1-4) and (4-10) will get a chance to break through at home when the host Mohave on Friday at 7pm. Bradshaw Mountain will play at Thunderbird tonight at 7pm.
