Parent scores 21 in home loss

The Prescott Badgers continue to struggle on their home court, this time falling to the Saguaro Sabercats 59-47 in the Badger Dome last night. Things started off right, as the Badgers went up 8-3 midway through the first quarter, but after a timeout, gave up eight of the final ten points in the quarter, trailing by a point heading into the second. Jason Parent, who lead the Badgers in scoring with 21, went to the basket for a layup to make it 12-11 seconds into the second quarter. That turned out to be the final lead Prescott would hold.

The game was tied 14-14 with 4:22 in the second, when Prescott took a timeout. Somehow that worked for the Sabercats, as they went on an 11-0 run to lead 25-14 with 2:32 on the clock.

Jacob Carter drilled a three to stop the Saguaro run to cut the deficit to 25-17. Once again the Sabercats looked comfortable, knocking down a pair of threes to increase their lead to 31-17, with a minute left. Saguaro heade to halftime with a commanding 36-17 lead, that included a 33-9 run in the a quarter and a half.

The Sabercats picked up right where they left off, building a 40-17 lead before Prescott started to work on trimming that deficit.

The Badgers trailed by double digits throughout most of the second half, but back to back baskets by Jason Parent pulled Prescott within seven at 52-45 with 3:47 remaining. That was as close as the home team would get as the Sabercats won by 12. Marcus Putnam led Saguaro in scoring with 18.

One big issue was the Badgers inability to get to the free throw line. Prescott was outscored 12-1 at the charity stripe.

Saguaro improves to (4-6), while the Badgers, still winless at home are also (4-6). Prescott will host Coconino on Monday at 7pm, in the final game of 2018, before traveling to Lee Williams on January 3.
