Jason Parent scored a season high 25 points, all in the second half to lead the Badgers beat the Mingus Marauders 65-48 in Cottonwood last night. The win snaops a three game skid by the Badgers, and evens their record in Grand Canyon Region play.
"Tonight was a program win. We played with defense intensity, rebounded, and got stops on a consistent basis," said Prescott coach Travis Stedman. "We were also able to relax and execute our offensively. Those two thinggs really gave us confidence which in turn led to coming out with a victory in a very difficult place to play."
Prescott jumped out to a lead in the opening quarter as Korey Schwartz, Ayden McKenna, and Dellin Boyd contributed in the scoring. Schwartz had 12 of his 14 points in the first half, before a scoreless Parent took over. The Badgers were able to build a 30 point lead at one point, as Parent nailed shot after shot, that included five from downtown. After three quarters Prescott led 49-28. It is by far the Badgers biggest road win to date.
Parent, 6-5 freshman, had a very quiet first half, but exploded in the third and fourth quarters. Besdise his five three pointers, Parent had two dunks and six rebounds. Korey Schwartz played a great game as well, producing 14 points, and nine rebounds.
Mingus drops to (1-1) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (5-7) overall. Unfortunately, Mingus failed to provide a roster of their players
Prescott (1-1), and (4-5), will host Saguaro on Friday at 7pm.
Varsity Girls Basketball
The Lady Badgers fell to the Mingus Marauders 43-37 on the road in Cottonwood.
Prescott took and early lead as the Marauders were only able to get one basket in the first eight minutes. The Lady Badgers had a rough second quarter, and trailed 13-9 at the half. Things heated up for both squads in the third and fourth quarters, but Mingus managed to stay on top.
Hollie Dalton, who scored in every quarter, led the Lady Badgers with 14 points. Kira Reily and Ebony Porter both had good games as well. Reily scored 10 points, and Porter had 9.
Mingus (1-0) in Grand Canyon Region play, and (3-5) overall. hosts Deer Valley, Friday at 7pm. Prescott (0-2) in Grand Canyon Region, and (4-6) overall will play at Saguaro in Scottsdale, Friday at 5:30pm
