Senior hurler Evan Sterling pitches six solid innings in earning the win on Senior Day

Prescott wrapped up the home part of their schedule, with a 7-1 win over the Mohave Thunderbirds, on a very windy afternoon at Prescott High School.

One of the six seniors, pitcher Evan Sterling was dominating on the hill, throwing six innings, giving up no earned runs, only two hits, while striking out six and issuing no walks. The other seniors playing their final home game were Erubiel Franco, Ryan Greene, Ryan Hollaway, Brance Christopherson, Joey Christopherson, Kody Jones, and Chase Kasun.

Sterling helped his own cause in the second inning, when he doubled home Ryan Hollaway, who had doubled in Chase Kasun. A single by Kasun is what started the inning.

Leading 2-0, the Badgers added three more runs in the bottom of the third. Joey Christopherson, and Brance Christopherson both walked to start the inning. Ryan Greene hit a bloop single into the bermuda triangle in shallow right field to load the bases. Jake Schulz went with an outside pitch, taking it to right field for a two RBI single. Greene ultimately scored when Schulz purposely got into a rundown between first and second bases, confusing the Thunderbirds, and allowing Greene to score, giving Prescott 5-0 lead.

Mohave got an unearned run in the top of the fifth, when Jaedyn Eastman singled and later scored on a Badger throwing error. Prescott got that run right back when Ryan Greene hit a towering shot to the 375 sign, and racing his way for a standup triple. Once again the Badgers used some trickery after Kody Jones walked, he took off on a delayed steal, that allowed Greene to scamper home, and a 6-1 lead.

The final Badger run came when Ryan Hollaway doubled in Chase Kasun who reached first on a bunt single. Hollaway led the Badgers with three hits, two doubles and a single, plus two RBIs.

Brance Christopherson came in to pitch the final inning, giving up a pair of singles. Anthony Fregoza tried to score on a slow roller to third base, and was tagged out by Badger catcher Chase Kasun to end the game.

Prescott improves to (5-6) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (12-15) overall. The Badgers will travel to Cottonwood on Monday, to face Mingus in the regular season finale. Game time is at 3:45pm.
