Badger errors costly in loss

The Prescott Badgers softball team once again tore the cover off the ball with sixteen hits, but five errors proved to be to much to overcome in the 12-9 loss to the Mohave Thunderbirds.

It was the final home game for the seniors, and the Badgers were hoping for a better outcome. McKynzie Hyslip went the distance in the circle, giving up only four earned runs, and striking out nine.

The Thunderbirds went down quietly in the first inning, but after that they were able to score in every inning. The Badgers meanwhile were able to get some hits and by the middle of the fourth inning, trailed 7-0.

Prescott pushed two runs across in the bottom of the fourth, when Maggie Boelts and Danner Cozens hit back to back RBI singles. Mohave got those two runs back in the top of the fifth inning, to make it 9-2.

Tessa Eppele smacked a three run blast over the left centerfied fence, and the deficit was 9-5. Thunderbird added two more runs to make it 11-5 in the top of the sixth.

The Badgers came back with their most productive inning of the contest. Danner Cozens started things off with a solid single to center. Dana Seavey reached on an error, then Fran Larson singled to center to score Cozens. Bekah Norris knocked in two more runs with a single. Tessa Eppele singled putting runners at first and third. After the second out, Maggie Boelts singled to right to score Norris and all of a sudden Prescott trailed 11-9. Mohave got out of the inning on a ground out to first, leaving the tying run on base.

The Thunderbirds tacked on one more run when Hannah Hansen scored on a ground out by Kalani Reehill. Prescott came up in their last at bat and could manage a Fran Larson walk. After the game, five seniors were recognized. They are Sarah Satawaite, Hannah Hasvold, Denae Lenzi, and Maggie Boelts.

The Badgers drop to (3-8) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (6-15) overall. Mohave moved into first place and sits (9-2) and (16-11). Prescott will play their final regular season game at Thunderbird, on Monday at 4:00pm.
