Lack of run support costs Jones and Badgers                                                                                                                                             

Justin Tanner threw a complete game shutout as the Mingus Marauders beat the Prescott Badgers 1-0 Monday afternoon, on a cloudy, windy day in Prescott.

The Badgers stranded a runners on base throughout the contest. In the first inning, Brance Christopherson singled and stole second, where he was stranded to end the inning. In the seconf inning, Ray Chairez double down the third base line was all for not, as he too was stranded on base.

Mingus got to Badger pitcher Kody Jones in the third inning, with four straight singles, the last resulting in the only run of the game. Martin Soria came through for the Marauders that gave them the only run they needed. Mingus still had the bases loaded when Prescott got a big double play. The Badgers turned a five-two-three double play, as Ray Chairez fielded the ground ball and threw home to Chase Kasun, who fired it over to first baseman Korey Schwartz to end the inning, keeping the score at 1-0.

Jones led off the fourth with his bid to tie the game, but the ball was caught a few feet from the left field fence. Schwartz singled to right with one out, but was stranded after stealing second base.

In the fifth inning, Jacob Police singled to left, then stole second base to get in scoring position with two outs. Brance Christopherson flied to center to end the inning.

The Badgers stranded six baserunners in the game. Ryan Greene was held hitless, despite hitting the ball hard in all three of his at bats. Luke Fredrick had a single was but also left on base.

Prescott went quietly in their final at bat, as Marauder pitcher Justin Tanner picked up the complete game win. Tanner struck out four and walked one. Kody Jones took the tough loss going the distance on the hill. Jones gave up the one run, while scattering eleven hits, striking out five and had no walks.

Mingus improves to (8-1) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (15-4) overall. Prescott drops to (3-6) and (10-15). The Badgers will hit the road Tuesday, as the face Mohave, but will return home on Thursday for their final regular season home game. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
