Badgers need extra frame to get the win

Beating a team once is a challenge, beating them twice in the same week can be even tougher. That is exactly what happened yesterday as the Prescott Badgers won in dramatic fashion, 9-8 over the Lee Williams Volunteers. Tessa Eppele came up and smacked a two run home run scoring McKynzie Hyslip ahead of her for the thrilling victory. The two teams had met in Kingman on Tuesday, resulting in a 9-4 Badger victory.

The Volunteers jumped on Badger starting pitcher Francesca Larson for two runs in the top of the first. Prescott came right back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. Larson pitched the first two innings, and the final two innings in the circle, picking up the win. McKynzie Hyslip pitched the third through sixth innings, allowing five runs, but only two earned, and striking out four. Larson gave up four earned runs while striking out three. She was productive at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored.

Prescott took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third. The Badgers increased their lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth.

Lee Williams went up 6-5 in their half of the fifth, and added one more in the sixth to go up 7-5. The Badgers battled back to tie the game at seven in final inning of regulation. The Volunteers pushed a run across in the top of the eighth, setting up the final comeback for Prescott.

Four Badgers had multiple hits in the contest. They were Dana Seavey, who had two singles and scored twice. McKynzie Hyslip had two singles, a run scored, and an RBI. Danner Cozens also had two singles and a run scored. Alexis Ingram had a double, a walk, and an RBI. Rebekah Norris had an RBI single, and Makayla Reyes singled and scored.

The Badgers improve to (2-4) and (4-11), while Lee Williams drops to (0-8) and (6-16). Prescott will have a chance to move up in the standings when they travel to play Flagstaff in a doubleheader tomorrow. Game time is set for noon and 2pm.
