Lee Williams managed to pull out a 2-1 win over the Prescott Badgers despite a great effort on the mound by Jake Schulz. The winning run came in the top of the seventh, following the Badgers tying the game up in the bottom of the sixth.
The Volunteers broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the third inning. Prescott struggled to score, but was able to tie the game at one in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ryan Greene scored the only Badger run while hitting a double and stealing a base. Joey Christopherson doubled and stole a base. The Prescott offense produced four other hits, all singles, while leaving nine on base. The Badgers had a great chance to tie or even win the game in their final at bat, but failed to get a key hit that would have done so.
Matt Bathauser went six innings for the Volunteers, allowing one run on four hits. Mike Bathauser came on to finish in the bottom of the seventh, giving up two hits, while striking out two.
Starting pitcher Jake Schulz threw 91 pitches while going 6 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out two and yielding one walk. Erubiel Franco pitched the final 2/3 inning of the game.
Prescott (1-4) and (7-13) travels tomorrow to face Lee Williams (5-2) and (16-7) in the rematch. Game time is at 3:30pm.
