Moon Valley Uses 4th Quarter To Blast Past Badgers 60-49

11-0 run midway through final quarter costly


The Prescott Badgers first game of 2018 fizzled out in about a minute, as the Moon Valley Rockets went on 11-0 4th quarter run to go up by nine after trailing by a basket. The result, a 60-49 loss to the Rockets.

Cameron Parsons tied the game, then gave the Badgers a 44-42 lead with 5:09 left. Moon Valley coach Matt Elliot took a time out, and his team came out and turned up the heat defensively, forcing the Badgers into four turnovers a minute plus span.  Moon Valley moved the ball quickly, scoring from inside and out, to turn the game completely around, to lead 53-44 with 3:49 to play. Prescott could not recover and the Rockets into went back to Phoenix with the win.

The game started off slow as both teams tried to shed the dust from being idle over the Christmas break. The Badgers last played on December 18, and it showed. Both teams suffered shooting and turnover issues. Prescott made 19-58 overall, 3-13 from three point land. Moon Valley 23-59, but only 7-26 from downtown. Prescott kept themselves in the game battling hard on the boards, out rebounding the Rockets 34-23.

The Rockets slowly built a lead in the first quarter, and extended the lead to 18-13 with 5:20 in the second quarter on a inside basket by Jok Jok. The Badgers battled back to take the lead 19-18 on a basket by Dallin Jex. Jok, who lead all scorers with 27 points and 11 rebounds, nailed a three to give the Rockets a 21-19 lead. Cameron Parsons first basket of the game tied the score at 21. Baskets by Kody Jones and Charles Hicks put the Badgers up 25-21 at the break.

Prescott had their largest lead of six, when Braden Lopez put in a shot off the glass for a 27-21 lead with 7:33 left in the 3rd quarter. The Rockets fought back to tie the game at 35 on layup by Jok with 1:10 remaining in the quarter. Moon Valley led 37-35 at the end of the three quarters. Kody Jones led the Badgers with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

The Rockets jumped out to a five point lead (42-37), with 6:20 to play. Once the Badgers tied the game at 44, it all went down hill from there.

Prescott (6-8) will face Sedona Red Rock on Saturday, in the 'Hoopin' It Up Tournament' at Talking Stick Resort in Phoenix. Game time is at 2:45pm. Moon Valley improves to (10-4) and will host Cactus on Tuesday night.
