The Badgers had a convincing home win against the San Tan Valley Combs Coyotes.

Prescott High School Badgers came out of the gate hungry for a win on Friday night, and by the time the evening was over, they achieved that goal. With a final score of 38-16 over the Combs Coyotes, PHS Football’s Head Coach Michael Gilpin was able to notch a first victory of his tenure at PHS.

Just as Combs was about to lose the ball on downs, a penalty against the Badgers allowed the visiting team to keep possession, which led to the first points on the board. With 6:16 left in the 1st quarter, Combs scored a field goal: 3-0.

The Badgers quickly responded by scoring a TD in less than 40 seconds, bringing the score to 7-3. The Badgers scored a field goal in the last minute of the quarter, bringing the score to 10-3.

A TD for the Coyotes tied up the game at 10 with 2:53 left in the second quarter. Then, with only 11 seconds on the clock in the second quarter, the Badgers scored a TD and the extra point, going into the locker room at half-time with a 17-10 lead.

At halftime, Prescott inducted four people and two teams into the school’s Hall of Fame.

The Badgers played with a renewed determination in the second half, and scored two unanswered TDs in the 3rd quarter. Another TD in the 4th quarter brought the score to 38-10. Combs struggled to score in the second half, but got a final TD in the last remaining seconds of the game, just as the horn sounded. Final score: Prescott 38, Combs 16.

Afterwards, Coach Gilpin talked about the game and the team’s effort:
