Prescott rallied from an early five run deficit to beat the Verrado Vipers 8-5, on a blustery day at Prescott High School yesterday.
The Vipers wasted no time on taking the lead. The Badgers were roughed up early, allowing four runs on four hits, in the top of the first. The top of the second, the Vipers added one more. Kate Acton singled and scored on a double by Kasey Jones for a five run Verrado lead.
Trailing 5-0, the Badgers got the bats heated up and tied the game with five in the bottom of the second. A one out single by Brea Christopherson started things off. Evelyn Morales reached on the only Viper error, and with two outs, Xenia Franco singled to center to load the bases. Ashlynn Uvila came up and delivered the big blow, with a bases clearing double to left center and the Badgers trailed 5-3. Caeden McKelvey singled in Uvila and it was 5-4. Delaney Marshall doubled in McKelvey to tie the game at five.
Prescott took the lead in the fourth. Xenia Franco doubled and scored on a single by Ashlynn Uvila, giving the Badgers their first lead of the game 6-5. Delaney Marshall doubled in Uvila for a 7-5 advantage. Meanwhile, Kendall Schwartz was solid in the circle not allowing any more runs in the final five frames. Schwartz struck out the side in the fourth inning, and had six for the game.
The final Badger run came in the six, when Ashlynn Uvila doubled and scored on a double by Caeden McKelvey.
Prescott (16-9) will take the short trip to Prescott Valley on Monday, to face rival Bradshaw Mountain. Game time is at 3:45pm.
