Great Day To Be A Roughrider: Volleyball knocks off #1 team and soccer wins

The Roughrider volleyball team began the season going undefeated at the Snow College Invitational defeating Central Wyoming Community College and Trinidad State Junior College on Friday and College of Southern Idaho and Utah State - Eastern on Saturday. 

College of Southern Idaho is the NJCAA DI Pre-Season #1 team in the nation. YC beat the Eagles, 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22). The victory marks the first time that a Roughrider volleyball team has knocked off a #1 team.

Yavapai concluded the tournament with a five-set victory over Utah State-Eastern after falling behind two games to zero.  

YC plays their home opener on Thursday in the Dalton Overstreet Invitational. YC hosts Monroe College, NY beginning at 4:00 PM in Walraven Gym.

Soccer

Yavapai College scored the first three goals of the match in a 3-1 victory over Otero Junior College, Colorado, Saturday night in Prescott Valley. YC is now 2-0 on the young season. This was the season opener for Otero. The Roughriders are now 2-0-0 against the Rattlers. Yavapai beat Otero in the 2013 West District Finals at Ken Lindley Field to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament.

The Roughriders return to the pitch for their first road match at the year on Thursday, August 29th at Peoria Pioneer Sports Complex to play Glendale Community College. The game will kick off at 7:00 PM. YC returns to the friendly confines on Saturday, August 31st hosting Phoenix College. The match will begin at 6:00 PM at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley.
