Roughrider Softball Team Manage Two Shutouts in Doubleheader

The Roughrider softball team crushed the Scottsdale Community College Artichokes Tuesday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field, 5-0 and 24-0. Yavapai improves their overall record to 21-6 and their ACCAC mark to 15-3. Scottsdale falls to 4-18 on the year and 3-17 in the conference.

In the opener, Jaya Allen had all the right stuff allowing zero runs and besting Scottsdale by a score of 5-0.

Allen toed the rubber for Roughriders surrendering zero runs on one hit over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking one.

The Green and Gold tallied two home runs on the game. Brianna Griffiths went deep in the fifth inning. Makea-Al Kaluau went for the long ball in the third inning.

Griffiths, Mariah Kalamaras, Makayla Guerra, Kaluau, and Jaydee Boursaw each collected one hit to lead Roughriders.

In the second game, Kiana Spencer didn't allow a single run throwing a complete game shutout leading YC to a 24-0 victory. Spencer surrendered zero runs on three hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking zero.

Yavapai was boosted by Makayla Guerra who went 4-for-5 at the plate. Guerra singled in the first, homered in the third, doubled in the third, and doubled in the fourth. YC opened up the scoring in the first inning, when Guerra singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

The Roughriders scored 14 runs in the third inning. Yavapai’s big bats in the inning were led by home runs by Guerra, Jaydee Boursaw, and Kylie Brown, doubles by Mariah Kalamaras and Guerra, a single by Neenah Pangilinan, and a groundout by Brianna Griffiths.

Yavapai socked four home runs on the day. Boursaw went yard in the third and fourth innings. Guerra went for the long ball in the third inning. Brown went deep in the third inning.

The YC Hit Women collected 16 hits. Guerra, Katelyn Kubitschek, Boursaw, Pangilinan, and Brown each had multiple hits for Roughriders.

On Saturday, March 10th, the Roughriders entertain the top team in the conference and the #5 ranked team in the NJCAA, Eastern Arizona College (25-4, 18-2). The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
