Softball

The Roughrider softball team dropped a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to fellow NJCAA Division I opponent Arizona Western College in Yuma, 3-2 and 7-3. YC falls to 17-6 on the year and 11-3 in ACCAC action. Arizona Western improves to 16-9 overall and 10-4 conference play.

The opener was a pitcher’s duel with both hurlers allowing only 11 hits between the two. The Roughrider drew first blood on Neenah Pangilinan’s solo home run in the third inning. Arizona Western tied the score with a single run in the fifth inning. Yavapai regained the lead in the top of the sixth but the opponent scored two in their half of the sixth inning for the victory.

Jaya Allen took the loss from the circle scattering 5 hits and striking out 5.

In the nightcap, the score remained scoreless through three innings of play. AWC got on the board first with a lone run in the fourth inning. YC knotted the score in their half of the fifth but the opponent plated 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth. YC attempted a comeback in the seventh with two runs but that was all they could muster.

Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, February 27th hosting Gateway Community College. The twinbill begins at 12:00 PM at Bill Vallely Field.
