The Roughrider softball team swept a pair of games on Saturday at the Great Western Shootout. YC beat another team of Roughriders as they shutout Luna Community College Rough Riders, 8-0 and blanked College of Southern Nevada, 8-0. YC is now 8-3 overall.
In the opener, Kiana Spencer and Santana Parra combined for the 1-hit shutout and Jaydee Boursaw hit her fourth home run of the season. Boursaw, Brianna Griffiths and Neenah Pangilinan each had two hits.
All of the scoring was done in the first inning as YC put 8 runs on the board fueled by a three-run home run from Shelby Hotchkiss. Pangilinan was 2 for 2.
Jaya Allen threw the complete game shutout striking out 7 batters and scattering 3 hits.
YC resumes ACCAC play on Tuesday, February 6th at Paradise Valley Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM.
The Roughrider softball team split a pair of games Friday afternoon at the Great Western Shootout in Yuma, Arizona. YC dropped the opener to College of Southern Idaho, 12-9 and Jaya Allen threw a no-hitter for a 9-0 victory over Trinidad State College in the nightcap. YC is now 6-3 overall on the young season.
In the opener, Yavapai opened up to an early 3-0 lead but through three innings the game was tied at 4. The opponents put four runs on the board in their half of the fourth and YC responded with 1 in the bottom of the innings. In the bottom of the 6th, the Roughriders took the lead posting 4 runs. Southern Idaho added four runs of their own in the top of the 7thand YC stranded 2 runners in the bottom half of the inning to conclude the game.
Jaydee Boursaw led the offense going 3 for 3 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored knocking her third home run of the year.
Jaya Allen was stellar from the circle in the second game throwing a complete game no-hitter for the victory. Allen struck out a season high 10 batters and walked one.
Katelyn Kubitschek and Brianna Griffiths each had 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Boursaw and Makea-Al Kaluau had 2 hits each. Kaluau knocked in four runs and Boursaw had three RBI’s.
YC continues tournament action on Saturday facing Luna Community College at 10:00 AM and College of Southern Nevada at 12:30 PM.
The Roughrider baseball team began a non-conference three-game series with Arizona Western College Friday afternoon in Phoenix and YC came away with a 12-3 victory. YC is now 3-2 on the young season.
The Yavapai offense was very productive despite being outhit by the Matadors. The Roughriders had 10 hits and 9 runs batted in compared to 13 hits and 1 RBI for the opponent.
Over Torres was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI’s with a home run. Tommy Sacco was 2 for 5, Gianni Tomsi was 2 for 4 and Jesus Pulido was 2 for 3. Alex Isola was 1 for 5 with a home run and 4 RBI’s.
Tommy Costello threw five innings striking out 4 for the victory. Kevin Stevens threw the final 4 innings.
YC continues the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 PM.
