Roughriders Take 3rd Place in National Championships After 3-2 OT Loss

The Yavapai College soccer team battled hard, but in the end, they fell to Tyler Junior College from Texas. Tyler would go on to win the 2017 National Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Yavapai College soccer team fell short of their 14th National Championship Game appearance with a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss to Tyler Junior College Friday afternoon in the semi-finals of the NJCAA National Tournament. YC trailed 2-0 early in the second half only to tie the march with 13 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Roughrider's second goal came late in the game.

The Roughriders finish in third place of the tournament marking the 19th time that the Green and Gold finished in the top in the nation.

 Yavapai concludes the season with a 23-3-3 overall record, a conference title, region title and district title. In their 29th season, Yavapai now has a 615-57-30 all-time record. YC was 6-1 in 2017 in single elimination post season games.

Yavapai had several close misses throughout the game.

Additionally, the Roughriders set a National scoring record with 145 goals.

Tyler advanced to the National Championship game on Saturday against Schoolcraft College, MI. In the end, Tyler won it all.
