Roughrider Soccer Team Records 1st Shutout of the Season

27 August 2017   Brad Clifford

The Roughriders have just 5 games to go to reach 600 all-time wins.

The Yavapai College Soccer team recorded their 3rd straight home victory to begin the 2017-18 season with a 1-0 victory Saturday in Prescott Valley. The match was the third match in 5 days for the Roughriders. YC is now 3-0-0 on the young season and 2-0-0 in ACCAC action. Glendale falls to 0-1-1.

Scoring was rare Saturday night as both teams battled through a scoreless first half. The lone goal was scored 2 minutes and 10 seconds into the second frame when William Baynham found the back of the net on a beautiful helper from Carlo Quesada.

Freshman Tyler Trump played all ninety minutes in goal for the Riders to record the first shutout of the season. Trump had 5 saves. The shutout was the 449th shutout all-time for the Roughriders.

Yavapai continues conference play on the road on Tuesday, August 29th against Paradise Valley Community College at Rose Mofford Park. The match will begin at 7:00 PM. On Friday, September 1st, YC plays in Tucson against the Aztecs from Pima Community College beginning at 7:00 PM.

  • Saturday’s win was the 250th Saturday victory for the Roughriders.
