Yavapai College Baseball Can't Complete Doubleheader Sweep

PRESCOTT- Having swept a doubleheader against Thompson River University on Wednesday, the Yavapai College Roughriders took game one of the doubleheader on Saturday from the Central Arizona College Vaqueros 6-2 but couldn’t complete the sweep and struggled in game two in route to a 10-4 defeat.

In game one, redshirt sophomore pitcher Reza Aleaziz had things working on the mound throwing five innings-in a seven inning shortened game-tossing one run ball and only allowing two hits while striking out six.

“I thought it was a good outing,” Aleaziz said. “It really came down to fastball command. I pitched off my fastball and it worked well today.”

Sophomore outfielder Cory Willis lead the team offensively with three of the team’s ten hits while Jonathon Villa and Jeddediah Fagg each had a pair of hits.

Things went differently on the mound in game two as the team squandered an early lead and allowed ten runs as a three-run fourth inning put Yavapai College in an early 5-1 hole. Central Arizona College would add a pair of runs in the seventh and ninth inning to finish off the Roughriders.

The Vaqueros were led by Alix Garcia who went 3-5 in game two, driving in two runs. Central Arizona also left the yard twice as Brad Morgan had a solo homerun while Makoa Rosario cranked a two-run shot.

Yavapai College got nine hits in game two as Willis collected an RBI and his second multi-hit game of the day while Fagg, Dylan Enwiller and Jonathan Villa each added an RBI to the total.

“I thought we played a good game, we kept scrapping but things didn’t go our way,” Enwiller said. “We didn’t get the timely hits and we couldn’t stop the bleeding on defense.”

Yavapai College baseball (12-10, 1-5 conference) hits the road for a doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday at noon and 2:30pm.
