Lady Roughriders Notch Two More Wins

By the end of the night, the consecutive win total reached 9 games.

The Roughrider softball won their 8th and 9th consecutive games on Friday over Mesa Community College in Mesa, 10-2 and 23-1. YC improves to 15-2 overall and 11-1 in ACCAC action.

In the opener, Jaydee Boursaw drove in four on three hits to lead Roughriders. The freshman catcher drove in runs on a home run in the second, a double in the second, and a single in the sixth.

Yavapai secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the second inning.

YC took an early lead in the first inning on an Andrea Sotelo solo home run. Mesa evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by Valerie Macias.

The Roughriders had 14 hits in the game. Boursaw, Sotelo, Rios, Ige, and Mahina Chong each collected multiple hits for Roughriders. Roughriders was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.

In the nightcap, Raelynn Rios collected five hits in five at bats. The California native homered in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, homered in the fourth, and hit a grand slam in the fifth.

Home runs for Roughriders came when Karissa Pena homered in the second inning, Rios homered in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, Jaydee Boursaw homered in the third inning, and Mariah Kalamaras homered in the second inning.

Roughriders collected 27 hits. Rios, Kalamaras, Boursaw, Savana Ramirez, Andrea Sotelo, Pena, Mercedes Rothwell, Ige, and Chong each collected multiple hits for Roughriders.

Kiana Spencer got the victory from the circle. The lefthander threw three innings of no-hit ball.

Yavapai plays host to league leader, Central Arizona College on Tuesday, February 21st in a 1:00 PM doubleheader. The games will be played at Bill Vallely Field. YC entertains fellow Division I foe, Arizona Western College on Saturday, February 25th at noon.
