Lady Roughriders Notch Two More Wins

The Roughriders swept the Pima Community College Aztecs.

In a battle of two ACCAC heavyweights, the Yavapai College softball team came out unscathed. The Roughriders swept the Aztecs from Pima Community College in Tucson Saturday afternoon, 12-4 and 15-2. Yavapai improves to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in the league standings.

In Saturday’s opener, the Roughriders scored in every inning thanks to 21 hits in the game Andrea Sotelo gave Pima fits, as she bagged five hits. Sotelo doubled in the first, doubled in the second, singled in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh.

The Green and Gold captured the lead in the first inning scoring two on a run scoring double by Sotelo and a run scoring single form Karissa Pena. YC scored 2 runs each in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th innings.

YC collected 21 hits with Sotelo, Jaydee Boursaw, Haley Parson, Mariah Kalamaras, Pena, Mercedes Rothwell, Raelynn Rios, and Shayna Ige each collected multiple hits for Roughriders. Sotelo and Parson each drove in three runs to lead Roughriders.

Amy Robinson went the distance scattering seven hits while striking out 5.

In the second game, Jaydee Boursaw drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Roughriders past Pima. Boursaw drove in runs on a walk in the first and a grand slam in the fifth.

YC scored 5 runs in the first inning and the game was never in doubt.

The Roughriders had 16 hits in the game. Mariah Kalamaras, Boursaw, Rios, Ige, and Kalee Mabray each collected multiple hits for Roughriders. Ige and Boursaw each drove in four runs to lead Roughriders.

Santana Parra threw five innings for the victory.

Yavapai continues conference action on Tuesday, February 14th at Glendale Community College, the doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM.
