The National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 started World Series Play in Grand Junction, CO. on Saturday

Three home runs powered the Yavapai College Roughrider Baseball team's offense on Saturday at Suplizio Field at the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. The blasts carried YC to a 9-5 victory over Delgado Community College Dolphins.

Home runs for the Green and Gold came when Turtle Kuhaulua homered in the second inning, Ramsey Romano homered in the fourth inning, and Nate Easley homered in the eighth inning.

Romano reached base four times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the second and ninth innings.

Delgado couldn't get anything going as long as Nicko Ortega was pitching. The Dolphins managed just one hit off of Ortega, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his two innings of work.

The lead stayed with Yavapai after the second, when it scored four runs on a three-run home run by Kuhaulua and an RBI single by Christian Maggi.

After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the third, Delgado faced just a 4-2 deficit. An error and a passed ball triggered the Dolphins' comeback. Finally, Joseph Romero got a strike out to end the threat.

The Riders tacked on another two runs in the fourth. The inning got off to a hot start when Romano homered.

Delgado scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut its deficit to two.

YC posted one run in each of the fifth, eighth and ninth. In the fifth, Yavapai scored on an RBI single by Kuhaulua, plating Dylan Enwiller.

One run in the bottom of the sixth helped Delgado close its deficit to 7-5 on a solo home run.

Yavapai advances to meet Cisco College on Monday, May 30th at 2:00 PM. The Wranglers beat Darton State College, 13-11 on Saturday.
