The Roughrider baseball team split a Saturday afternoon doubleheader against the NJCAA Division II #10 ranked Mesa Community College Thunderbirds. YC won the first game, 6-5 in extra innings and MCC took the nightcap, 7-1. YC is now 30-13 on the year and 17-6 in conference play. Mesa holds a 30-11 overall record and a 16-11conference mark.
Both teams volleyed the lead four times on Yavapai took the lead in the ninth inning for the victory. A walk by Jaxxon Fagg scored Nate Easley for the winning run.
Easley racked up three RBIs on two hits for Yavapai College Roughriders Baseball. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the ninth inning.
The bottom of the first saw Mesa take an early lead, 2-0. Yavapai got one-run boosts in each of the third, fifth and ninth and pushed 3 runs across in the fourth inning.
Mesa CC quickly matched Yavapai College Roughriders Baseball's strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the fifth. Mesa CC scored on an RBI single by Morimoto.
In the second game, YC could not overcome fielding woes as the Roughrider defense committed 5 errors. YC pitching only surrendered 4 hits and 0 earned runs.
The YC offense only managed 4 hits, all singles.
Yavapai returns home for their next ACCAC doubleheader as they entertain the Pumas from Paradise Valley Community College on Tuesday, April 12th. The twinbill starts at 12:00 PM.
