The Roughrider softball team scored a huge doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon at Bill Valley Field over fellow ACCAC Division I foe, Central Arizona College, 11-1 and 12-3. Yavapai is now 22-8 in conference play and 30-10 overall. Central Arizona falls to 16-11 in the ACCAC standings and 20-17 on the season.
In the opener, Yavapai knocked 14 hits including 2 home runs. Offensively, Jocilyn Ellis led the Riders going 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored, 4 RBI’s, a double and home run. Sydney Forray was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 5 runs batted in. Forray launched a grand slam in the second inning. Mikayla Newham and Karissa Pena each had two hits.
Amy Robinson threw the complete game for the victory striking out 3 and scattering 5 hits.
In the nightcap, Forray continued to swing the hot bat as she knocked two home runs. Lynea Klemmedson also knocked a homer. Again, Ellis was perfect from the plate going two for two. Mahina Chong and Karissa Pena each were 2 for 2.
Dustie Durham got the victory from the circle throwing 4 innings, striking to two and surrendering 9 hits.
Yavapai continues Division I conference play on Tuesday, March 29th at Eastern Arizona College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
