The Roughrider softball team swept an ACCAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon over Paradise Valley Community College, 4-2 and 8-1. Yavapai improves to 26-10 on the season and 18-8 in conference play. Paradise Valley falls to 6-20 in league play and on the year.
In the opener, Yavapai scored 3 runs in their half of the sixth inning on a Sydney Forray three-run homer and Amy Robinson shut the door in the bottom of the 7th inning to record the victory. Jocylin Ellis was 3 for 4. Karissa Pena, Andrea Sotelo and Mikayla Newham each had two hits. Forray was 1 for 1 with 3 RBI’s. Robinson threw the complete game striking out 3 and scattering 7 hits.
In the nightcap, the Roughrider bats were alive early as they scored 5 runs in the first two innings. Dustie Durham got the victory in the circle and was 2 for 4 from the plate. Sotelo and Ellis had two hits apiece.
Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, March 22nd as they entertain conference nemesis Pima Community College. In February, YC swept the Aztecs in Tucson, 5-1 and 3-2. Tuesday’s doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.<
