The fall athletic season was successful for the Yavapai College soccer and volleyball teams. The YC kickers won their 25th ACCAC Championship and for the first time in Yavapai history the volleyball gals won the NJCAA District C Title and advanced to the NJCAA DI Volleyball National Tournament.
The accolades continue to roll in for the Roughriders. On Thursday, the NJCAA announced the Division I All-American team with both teams being represented on the respective celebrated lists.
For Mike Pantalione’s soccer team, sophomore Niall Logue received first team honors. Logue anchored the Roughriders defense which recorded 10 shutouts and a 0.94 goals against average. Sophomore forward Reece Weldon, posted a team high 25 goals, 13 assists for 63 points, was named to the NJCAA second team. Yavapai finished the 2015 season with a 19-3-1 record. Logue and Weldon becomes the 57th and 58th soccer All-American in the school’s history.
The prestigious National Soccer Coaches Association All-America team will be released next week.
Leading her team to the most successful volleyball season in Roughrider history, Iva Alebic was honored with a second team nod. Alebic led the ACCAC in kills per set and was second in the nation at 4.66. She was the go-to hitter for Zach Shaver’s squad getting 424 kills on the year. Alebic is the 5th YC spiker to garner the All-American award.
