PHS Hires New Wrestling Coaches

The Prescott High School Athletic Department would like to announce the hiring of Head Wrestling Coach Cody Collett and Asst. Coach Jack Perkins for the 2020-2021 season. Coaches Collett and Perkins will be taking the reigns of the Badger wrestling program after Head Coach Shawn Carbajal stepped down to move his family back to the valley.

Coach Collett will be familiar to many Badger fans as the Head Football Coach at PHS, which he will remain doing, and Coach Perkins is also widely known in the local wrestling community, having spent the last several years helping to coach the Humboldt Middle School Team as well as the Prescott Valley Club Wrestling Program the Bighorns.

Coach Collett states, “I am very excited and humbled to be a part of a wrestling program with such a rich tradition. Coach Carbajal has laid a tremendous groundwork for the program and we hope to build on that momentum.”

Coach Collett’s background in wrestling dates back to 2003 where he served as the Asst. Varsity, Head 9/10 wrestling coach at Dobson High School where he stayed for 9 years before moving to Red Mountain High School and coaching there for a year. Since then, Coach Collett has been coaching football, but he is excited to get back on the mat and work with our student-athletes. Collett is an NFHS Level 2 Nationally Certified Interscholastic Coach.

Coach Perkins was a 4-year varsity letterman in high school wrestling where he won 2 state championships, one in folkstyle and one in freestyle. After high school, Coach Perkins joined the Marine Corps. Since 1993, he has been helping to coach at the high school, middle school, and club levels. Perkins also is an NFHS Level 1 Accredited Interscholastic Coach.

We are excited to have the opportunity to watch Coach Collett and Coach Perkins work with our student-athletes and continue the longstanding tradition of excellence in our Badger Wrestling Program.
