Bill's Newscast: Pickleball!

City of Prescott looks at partnering with the Prescott Pickleball Association for additional courts.

There are already 8 pickleball courts at Pioneer Park, but there could be more coming. As part of the Prescott City Council meeting at 3 this afternoon, the Recreation Services Department will be seeking approval of a donation agreement with the Prescott Pickleball Association. The Association is requesting permission to construct 4 additional courts next to the 8 constructed last year. Total construction costs are 90 thousand dollars and 30 thousand dollars of that would come from the Acker Trust Fund. The Association has agreed to raise the rest of the funding needed for construction. The new courts would be used to hold larger tournaments and to accommodate growing local interest in the activity. The Council meeting will be held at City Hall on South Cortez Street.

Road work

Watch for delays on Hassayampa Village Lane and Rosser Street due to road improvement work. City of Prescott crews are excavating Hassayampa Village Lane at its intersection with Thumb Butte Road and placing aggregate base course material this week. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times, but due to the nature of this work, drivers are advised to use Copper Basin Road as an alternate route. Work hours are 7 am to 5 pm today through Friday. Meanwhile, over on Rosser Street, the second segment of road construction, from Piping Rock Road to Prescott View Place is continuing this week. Crews are also replacing concrete sidewalks, driveway entrances, handicap ramps and curb and gutter in that same area. Work hours for both construction projects are 7 am to 6 pm today through Friday. Both projects are scheduled for completion this summer.
