It's time for the 69th Kiwanis Auction!

Alarcon Street to have temporary water shut-off

Prescott residents living in the area of Alarcon Street will be affected by a temporary water shut-off. Crews have installed new water line service connections for businesses and residents along North Alarcon between East Sheldon and East Gurley Streets.  The water shut-off is necessary to tie-in the new services to the existing water main line.   Residents and businesses will be without water service sometime between tomorrow and Friday.  Those affected will be notified 48 hours in advance.  Road grading is also taking place along North Alarcon from East Sheldon to East Gurley.  Crews are also conducting milling operations through East Willis and will continue to blend milled asphalt material to construct the base course for the roadway.  Work hours are today through Friday from 7 am to 6 pm.

Possible clarification in City's ballot language for the sales tax measure

A change could be made in the ballot language for the City of Prescott’s sales tax measure.  The Prescott City Council meets at 3 this afternoon to consider updated language for the measure that will be before voters on August 29th.  Councilwoman Billie Orr and Councilman Steve Sischka have asked that language specifies the three-quarters of 1 percent sales tax specifically be dedicated only to the payment of the unfunded Public Safety Personnel Retirement System liability.   Orr and Sischka would also like to discuss with their fellow Council members that with voter approval, at least one-quarter of the General Fund be sent directly to the Retirement System for payment of the liability.  Voters will decide on Proposition 443 on August 29th.  The Prescott City Council meeting will be held in City Hall on South Cortez Street.

An alleged suspect is in custody following a shootout near Wickenburg.  Early yesterday morning, the suspect entered a Buckeye home and demanded the residents’ vehicle. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputy Joaquin Enriquez says they contacted with On Star to track and disable the vehicle. Enriquez says deputies shot and wounded the suspect after he shot first. The suspect, who isn’t being named, was taken to West Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries.  No Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputies were injured.  Wickenburg is located about 60 miles from Prescott off Highway 89.
