Yavapai College Performing Arts Center Launches Outdoor “Concerts on the Green” Series at Prescott Valley Amphitheater, May 9

Grab your Mom and get to Prescott Valley! YC is throwing off the lockdown doldrums and celebrating Mother’s Day with great music in the open-air glory of spring! Yavapai College Performing Arts Center launches its five-concert “Concerts on the Green” series, Sunday May 9, at Prescott Valley’s Civic Center Amphitheater.

“On Sunday May 9, Yavapai College Performing Arts will return to live performances!” YC Performing Arts Center Director of Programming and Development Dr. Craig Ralston said. “Mother’s Day is an ideal day for the family to spend outdoors, so we invite you to a series of three concerts at 2, 4 and 6 p.m. Join us for a day of outdoor music where we can celebrate the live performing arts once again!”

The 2 p.m. Jazz Concert will feature the Roughrider and Trailblazer jazz bands performing Count Basie, Cole Porter and more. The 4 p.m. Choral Concert, brings the YC Chamber Singers, the Master Chorale and Community Chorale together to sing Brahms, Florence Price and The Beatles. And the 6 p.m. Instrumental Concert, with the YC Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band, closes the day with a repertoire including Tchaikovsky, Brahms and the Muppets! The May 9 concerts are free – with donations encouraged at the door.

“Concerts on the Green” then reconvenes on Sunday, May 23 at 7 p.m., with an invitation to “party like it’s 1979.” ABBAFab – “the World’s Number One ABBA Tribute Band” – brings the sound, pageantry and flavor of the 70’s back with their dead-on ABBA harmonies and stirring renditions of “Waterloo,” “Dancing Queen” and “Mamma Mia!” Tickets are $15 for adults, and $5 for kids 9 to 17. Children 8 and under are free.

Then you’ll say, “Oh, what a night!” on Sunday June 6, when Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons tribute group December ’63 breaks out the matching jackets, the soaring falsettos and the oh-so-singable hits, like “Candy Girl,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Sherry” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” Concert starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $5 for kids 9 to 17. Children 8 and under are free.

Sunday, June 27 offers an accomplished ensemble with plenty of hits to share under the stars, The Brian Chartrand Quartet. Chartrand, who has thrilled crowds everywhere from Phoenix’s Crescent Ballroom to Carnegie Hall, blends his soulful original work with a repertoire ranging from James Taylor to Radiohead. Concert starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $5 for kids 9 to 17. Children 8 and under are free.

“Concerts on the Green” concludes its inaugural season with a rousing orchestral salute to the country we love. “An American Celebration,” from The Prescott POPs, will fill the evening air with patriotic music, as well as classic tunes from movies, pop, and Broadway. Saturday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, and $5 for kids 9 to 17. Children 8 and under are free.

The “Concerts on the Green” series is co-produced by Yavapai College Performing Arts Center, which will adhere to local guidelines for safe public assembly during the coronavirus.
