Prescott Public Library Librarians Telling Tales Podcast

What happens when three book-crazy librarians begin plotting ways to share the books they read?  A podcast is born!  Last month, Prescott Public Library Youth Librarians Amy Schwall, Blair Runion, and Jennifer Kendall launched the premiere episode of Librarians Telling Tales, a new podcast about books, libraries, and the joys of reading

Youth librarians are always seeking new ways to connect with the community and talk about books.  In March of 2021, Prescott Public Library was awarded an LSAT (Library Services and Technology) Moving Forward Mini-grant from the Arizona State Library.  Upon receiving funding to purchase the equipment and launch the podcast, the three set to work figuring out the best ways to share their knowledge, experience, and love of the written word with the community.

Plans for future episodes include segments in which librarians discuss book genres and review books for youth and teens, share tips on how to keep kids reading, and highlight upcoming library programs and events.  One special segment included at the end of each podcast is called “Reader’s’ Rave” – a time for community members to call in and share a children’s or young adult book that they are currently reading or read in their youth.  For community members interested in sharing a favorite children’s or teen book with Reader’s Rave, they can call  928-777-1490 and leave a message with their first name, age, the title of the book they are recommending and why they like it.

Librarian Telling Tales will release a new 15-20 minute episode monthly, and all episodes can be downloaded from Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. This podcast is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
