Lynx Lake Mastication Project to Begin on March 22 – Prescott National Forest

Crews plan to begin working on the Lynx Mastication project in the Lynx Lake recreation area on Friday, March 22 to thin approximately 95 acres in total along the Walker Road corridor where heavy equipment will be used to grind dead and down vegetation, shrubs, and brush beneath the timber understory.

No trail closures are expected; however, visitors are asked to use caution while recreating near equipment operating in the area. Approaching such equipment is very dangerous as the operator may not see you.

Project area totals 95 acres and is located east of Walker Rd, west of Lynx Lake, north of FR 28 south shore and south of the FR 611 north shore entrance.

Mechanical thinning has proven to be an effective restoration and management tool. Completion of this project will improve the health and resiliency of fire-adapted ecosystems while simultaneously restoring watersheds, rangelands, and wildlife habitat, and reducing hazardous fuels that pose a threat to life and property in the wildland-urban interface.
