The Painting of the Murphy’s Shamrock

15 March 2020

A Tradition in Prescott for more than 30 years.

Prescott, AZ • March 9, 2020 - The annual painting of the green shamrock on the street at the intersection of Willis and Cortez took place in the early hours of the morning recently. Those who have been in the Prescott area long enough count the lucky green symbol to alert them that St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. It’s been a tradition painting the shamrock on the street since the original owner of Murphy’s brought out the green paint and roller in 1985. “You can’t miss the bright green shamrock as you drive through the intersection. It’s part of our big St. Patrick’s Day celebration here at Murphy’s. We’ll have Irish bagpipes starting at 4:30pm and live music right after that with Sky Daddy & the Pop Rocks,” stated Wendy Price, Director of Restaurant Concepts for Fork in the Road company that owns Murphy’s, Gurley St. Grill and The Office Cantina. “It’ll be a fun filled day and the shamrock is like a street billboard to announce St. Patrick’s Day is here,” Price continued.

Murphy’s Restaurant will be serving traditional Irish fares and drink specials all day, including green beer. The restaurant is also the starting point at 2pm for this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl, where nine other downtown Prescott establishments are participating. The other participants are The Office Cantina, Lyzzard’s, Gurley Street Grill, Granite Mountain Brewery, Bird Cage Saloon, 1881 Spirits, The Attic, The Palace Restaurant & Saloon, Jersey Lilly Saloon and ends at Matt’s Saloon.

For more information about the pub crawl please visit, or contact Murphy’s Restaurant at 928.445.4044.
